My investigations are inspired by the growth process of flowers and other forms found in nature. The metamorphic changes that occur; energy, tension, and motion are compelling forces that I continually strive to emulate in my work. They are best translated by the way I choose to manipulate and exaggerate the plasticity of the clay. My approach to the material is direct yet responsive to its’ innate properties. Additionally, the hand and material connection that clay provide in relation to the use of the potter’s wheel, engage me physically and allow me to respond spontaneously. Function as an integral part of my work brings an element of surprise, intimacy, and accessibility to each piece. The glazed surface is enhanced by over spraying with a variety of color and surface quality. Soda firing promotes a glazed surface that enhances and retains the fluidity and movement inherent to each piece.
